Welcome!

Based out of DeWitt County, Illinois, Second Chance for Pets is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, fostering, and re-homing homeless, abandoned, and unwanted pets.

Second Chance volunteers rescue pets from local high kill shelters and occasionally accept owner surrenders as space in foster homes permits. Second Chance for Pets relies solely on donations from the public. All of our adoptable pets are fully vaccinated against Parvovirus, Coronavirus, Distemper, and Rabies. They are spayed/neutered (no exceptions), heartworm tested, Feline Leukemia tested, dewormed, and on flea and tick prevention. They also go to their new homes microchipped (age dependent) and ready to be registered.

We appreciate that caring people want to help our animals find homes, but please do not post our adoptable pets on Craigslist for us. Thank you!

Second Chance for Pets is a 501(c)3 organization.
All donations are tax-deductible.

Donations needed!

Help us feed our homeless animals! Second Chance is always in need of donations of dry dog and cat food. If you have a donation, please call us at 217-935-3488, and we'll make arrangements to pick it up. Whatever you can donate, a 5 pound bag or a 40 pound bag, will be greatly appreciated and put to good use.

Volunteers desperately needed!

We are in desperate need of volunteers to do basic errands and transports and also to help load our Animal Protective League trucks (for the low-cost spay and neuter transport) one hour a month! If you can help, please email us at secondchanceforpets@yahoo.com!

Low cost spay/neuter clinics

Second Chance for Pets will be transporting dogs and cats to the Animal Protective League in Springfield, IL for low cost spay and neuter clinics in 2011 and 2012. If you have a pet that you would like to have spayed or neutered for a very low cost ($25 for pit bulls and pit bull mixes/$50 for other breeds), please call us at 217-935-3488 at least 24 hours in advance to get on the transport!

Low-cost vaccinations will also be available.

Please check out our events page for more details.

Help us end pet animal abuse!

If you know of any pets being neglected (starved, abused, living in squalid conditions, etc.), PLEASE call us at 217-935-3488. We don't want your name, just your information. Please give a voice to these pets who have none. It is your moral responsibility!

Signs that an animal is being abused or neglected:

  • Extreme thinness or ematiation
  • Untreated open wounds
  • Signs of inadequate grooming (e.g. severely matted fur)
  • Tied up alone outside for long periods of time, or in areas littered with feces or harmful objects
  • No access to food or water

Read here for more signs of animal cruelty.
