Can you find the only purebred
American Pit Bull Terrier of known heritage on this page?
You may find that it is not as easy to spot a true "pit bull" as you might think it is! Unfortunately, we often hear and see the word "pit bull" in media stories of vicious maulings of adults, children, and pets. All too often, dogs identified as pit bulls are in fact not pit bulls at all, but since they share similar physical features with pit bulls, they are labeled as pit bulls either through sheer ignorance or to draw more attention to a story. "Pit bull" is not a breed; it is a breed type that includes American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. The only true "pit bull," though, is an American Pit Bull Terrier - an athletic, stable, goofy, people-oriented breed that too often falls victim to unfounded prejudice. There are at least twenty breeds
of dogs that are incorrectly identified as pit bulls, and all of these
breeds and more are facing the family-shattering effects of Breed Specific
Legislation. Read more about Breed
Specific Legislation, and find out what you can do to help! |
